Selection Criteria

The following profile requirements are established to select teachers for the UNLV RET program:

  1. Appointment as a teacher of STEM in a middle school or a high school.
  2. Most importantly, demonstrate a strong commitment to enhance the STEM education level in their school.
  3. Demonstrate an understanding of performance-based assessment appropriate to the content.
  4. Previous experience that demonstrates effective communication skills and the ability to lead and function as a constructive team member in working with peers, administrators, parents and students.
  5. Demonstrate through their statement of purpose, the characteristics of creativity (originality, flexibility, fluency of ideas, resistance to premature closure, ability to elaborate).
  6. Desire to teach emerging technology through examples in their courses.
  7. A strong letter of recommendation from the teacher’s Principal and their assessment of the potential.

 

Additional Considerations:

  1. Preference will be given to broaden the participation of underrepresented groups such as women, teachers with disabilities, minority candidates and teachers from urban schools with high minority populations.
  2. Preference will be given to recruitment of two teachers from the same school to help ensure the outcomes of the program are more effectively disseminated to the participating schools.
  3. Fellows will be strongly encouraged to participate for two consecutive years to maintain continuity of
    the RET.
  4. Recognition from the CCSD of BD RET Fellows.
