Selection Criteria
The following profile requirements are established to select teachers for the UNLV RET program:
- Appointment as a teacher of STEM in a middle school or a high school.
- Most importantly, demonstrate a strong commitment to enhance the STEM education level in their school.
- Demonstrate an understanding of performance-based assessment appropriate to the content.
- Previous experience that demonstrates effective communication skills and the ability to lead and function as a constructive team member in working with peers, administrators, parents and students.
- Demonstrate through their statement of purpose, the characteristics of creativity (originality, flexibility, fluency of ideas, resistance to premature closure, ability to elaborate).
- Desire to teach emerging technology through examples in their courses.
- A strong letter of recommendation from the teacher’s Principal and their assessment of the potential.
Additional Considerations:
- Preference will be given to broaden the participation of underrepresented groups such as women, teachers with disabilities, minority candidates and teachers from urban schools with high minority populations.
- Preference will be given to recruitment of two teachers from the same school to help ensure the outcomes of the program are more effectively disseminated to the participating schools.
- Fellows will be strongly encouraged to participate for two consecutive years to maintain continuity of
the RET. - Recognition from the CCSD of BD RET Fellows.
